Story

Earl Grey Is a black tea blend flavoured with bergamot essential oil from bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia), a small citrus tree in Calabria, Italy.

The tea was named after Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, British Prime Minister in the 1830s, who supposedly received the first Earl Grey tea blend as a gift from a Chinese mandarin tea master, except that the Earl never went to China. In reality, bergamot oil was used to mask the odour of low-grade tea, sold at a hight price to the upper classes. Nonetheless, Earl Grey tea became popular in the English aristocracy and became the most beloved scented tea globally.

Today, most brands add artificial bergamot flavour as only small to medium-size tea houses can afford to use the real deal. Larger companies choose to simply flavour their tea artificially. So, when you think you're enjoying a nice bergamot cuppa, it is possible that you might be sipping a cup of chemicals. Our commitment to crafting a genuine Earl Grey prompted us to develop a blend that exudes authenticity.

For our Bergamot Supreme, instead of using the traditional smoked black tea, as in North America, it is accustomed to drink Earl Grey with milk, we opted to create a rich, full-bodied blend to enjoy this popular scented brew crafted with perfection in mind. For this, we combined rich Turkish tea featuring a slightly sourness and astringent flavour, from the Rize region in the Black Sea area, with English breakfast of Assam, Kenya and Malawi, for its malty, bitter, and mildly sweet notes.

The leaves have been infused with organic cold-pressed bergamot oil from Calabria, Italy, producing the finest variety in the world. The addition of dried bergamot peel enhances its heavenly aromatic scent, with orange peel and oil to bring a juicy sunny side.

Vegan, no artificial flavours or preservatives.

How-to

Steeping: Add 0.5 teaspoon of tea per cup in filtered boiled water (96°C / 205°F) and steep for 3-5 minutes.

Uses: Traditionally, Earl Grey tea is served with a slice of lemon and sugar yet most Earl Grey tea drinkers enjoy their tea with milk, like we do.

Perfect pairing

Earl Grey pairs well with rich and savoury dishes, tea sandwiches, light cheeses, nuts, pastries, scones, and breakfast meals.
